Startling and informative opening Euthanasia, something that few people think about, mostly because it’s not recognized by the general public until it involves them. What a big mistake. Nobody knows when they could be sitting in a hospital bed waiting to die, or when their grandparent could get into a fatal accident and suffers from many injuries that can’t be fixed. Euthanasia is an issue for everyone even if they don’t know it yet. The possibilities are endless as to what could happen in life and when knowledge about euthanasia could help with a huge decision. Quick summary of main question that I mean to answer or reason I think this topic is important
I think this is important because nobody really thinks about their death or the death of a loved one until they face it – Euthanasia could be a possibility for anyone at any time because we do not plan our deaths.
Two or three most interesting things I learned from research – Depression and lack of family support is the number 1 reason for people to request physician assisted suicide. -Many people believe if euthanasia was legal families would be bullied into euthanizing a loved one. Confirmation or rejection of one or two commonly held beliefs about this topic Rejection of a belief – Euthanasia gives people right to murder; this is untrue because the doctors can only administer death under many circumstances such as the patient’s request, the patient is suffering a terminal illness, the patient has consulted a colleague on all options, and their death is medically appropriate. Something to connect the topic to the reader's life so that he/she will care Many people don’t think about how they or their loved ones want to die until they are very close to death that is not the time to be deciding your options, such as euthanasia. If that was me I would want to be completely educated about the different types of euthanasia so I could understand what was going on. A closing surprise...intriguing fact, quotation, or discovery from my own research The most commonly euthanized infants have a disease called anencephaly, which occurs in 1 of every 2,000 infants – these children are biologically human but will never develop communication or an ability to relate to others.
1.What does the law say about euthanasia? In the US, suicide is not punishable as it is in India and Great Britain. Only one state in the United States allows euthanasia freely, it is Oregon, they passed the euthanasia allowment law in 1994. Lawmakers say though, that if there is a euthanasia case in the U.S, the verdict would most likely go against the doctor.
2.What is the difference between euthansia and assisted suicide? Euthanasia is performed when a person of a third party does the last act that intentionally stops the patients life (doctor gives patient lethal injection), Assisted suicide is when the person who dies carries out the last act that causes them to die. (doctor sets up lethal injection but patient draws the needle) 3. How can people be forced into euthanasia or assisted suicide? Many people are overwhelmed when they first learn of thier terminal illness or disease and without constant support from family and friends patients may become depressed and frightined and then atomatically think they can take the easy way out by reguesting euthanasia or assisted suicide. Also, some doctors who are licensed to perform euthanasia may conviently suggust euthanasia, with patients allready feeling like a burden, they become forced into what they think is what they want.
4. Who should decide when euthanasia is ethical? Nobody, euthanasia is never ethical, no matter what circumstances euthanasia is still euthanasia. 5. When is euthanasia performed? When a patient has a terminal illness or disease, many times euthanasia is reguested as a way of dying without suffering and pain.
